Just for now
By Danna Faulds
Just for now, without asking how, let yourself sink into stillness. Just for now, lay down the weight you so patiently bear upon your shoulders. Feel the earth receive you, and the infinite expanse of the sky grow even wider as your awareness reaches up to meet it. Just for now, allow a wave of breath to enliven your experience. Breathe out whatever blocks you from the truth. Just for now, be boundless, free, with awakened energy tingling in your hands and feet. Drink in the possibility of being who and what you really are – so fully alive that the world looks different, newly born and vibrant, just for now.
This was the theme, the focus that I started with a yoga practice today at the Hempfield Rec Center.
Oh Hai! Our #TeamKICKASS haven’t been back here in awhile. But with the latest developments, specifically NOW….about less than an hour ago, I had an AHA! moment. And this is the WHY of why I really teach.
Brief history of my teaching fitness life; it all started a long time ago. I was your average gym-goer, the person that always wanted to be in front of the class, and then got recruited to be a Zumba Fitness instructor by one of the most warm-hearted people, Glenda, in 2012. That’s where my story started. I have since been through so many certifications, from almost every single Zumba format, several indoor cycling formats, multiple Les Mills programs, HIIT, Tabata, TRX, Insanity, RIPPED, Bootcamp, Certified Personal trainer, and just about every high intensity and cardio format, I was trained or certified for it in one shape or form. Until recently, I challenged myself to learn a new format I said I would NEVER get trained for, yoga. It completes the circle, as my husband would say.
Fast forward to today and this morning…..I borrowed the excerpt from Danna Faulds poems, after an awesome power vinyasa flow for our savasana reading….you know that story telling time at the end of an awesome flow? I switched my playlist background music to an old classic by Christina Aguilera, “Beautiful” as we all went to our final state…. And it dawned on me, that as much as I love teaching indoor cycling classes, love to dance, and kick everyone’s bum at Insanity classes, teaching yoga is a huge contender. And this is WHY! The smile, tears and the enlightened look on my members eyes (you heard me, I said tears) and with final comments such as “that was beautiful,” quick stories of their past experiences about self-confidence and how we, as a society do NOT see ourselves as “beautiful”. Is it inside? Or outside? Because we are. We are all beautiful.
So I end this long post in saying that NOW I know why I absolutely LOVE teaching. With all the thousands of classes that I’ve taught or subbed for in the past 5 years, I’ve come to the conclusion that as much as I joke around that this is one way I can force myself to exercise and be fit….NO! This is not for me!
If I can touch one life, just one, in each class, to make them feel good about themselves, to lead a happy and healthy life, just one person at a time…. One person a class….then I’ve done my job. You are beautiful. Not just for now…but always. You are ALL beautiful.
Love,
